After a feed, a baby is held up to burp, and spit-up happens on the parent’s shoulder or chest. The burp cloth sits there to catch it, so the parent’s clothing stays clean. That is different from a bib, which is worn on the baby to catch food and drool, from a wipe, which cleans up afterward, and from a muslin, which is a large multi-use cloth.
